Our unlikely friendship

Each farewell different
the aching darkness stretches
and cowers as Gaia hurtles through
crushing void
seasons turn, reign, die, go back
into the queue

What is a sunburn, but
affirmation that we are alive
due to our unlikely friendship
with an enormous, raging
orb

its inner chaos giving rise
to spring daffodils and year-round
humanity

A thousand rainbow colors

A single shard
tells a tale
far beyond the
buoyant embrace
words supply

traced in toil
imbued with life
awoken from a crumbling tomb
to searing light
a collage of a thousand
rainbow colors!

day breaks –
rushing tide
clarity no soul
can live without

Vine-laden trellises
bear witness
to those arriving
on a mist-marked morning

a brick pathway
unfurls
once straight
now

thorny tendrils hold
searing colors
so vivid that their
full luster stays
until the ship sails
to what lies beyond
this
mortal coil.
