Injustice thrives in silence

Uncertain spring

each droplet
falls from sky to soil
divergent paths
converge to nourish the loam
where the ever-yearning shoots
of an uncertain spring stretch out
to bid the world a hearty
hello.

Scarlet rivers

Azure rivers flow
entwined, a
force of nature
while
their scarlet kin
exist
persist
drawn from
courageous hearts

rest in power

The suburbs

The suburbs
a continually cracking
edifice to an illusion

Moonlight

My friend tells me
moonlight collects in
pools each night
yet in the morning
I find only
water •

January litigation

January
should start a GoFundMe
to hire a marketing expert,
perhaps with social media prowess
alongside a slick-haired attorney
to complain that the phrase
“the dead of winter”
is wholly inaccurate,
its slander
lowering property values.

Teaching Ozymandias

Each era
power-drenched leaders
think themselves
unique;
can the great
comprehend a future
where their deeds
just prove the value
of teaching
“Ozymandias” to
tenth grade English students?

The eraser

Borders
ink lines on paper
at the drafter’s desk
the pen as potent
as the eraser

Not yet given

the truth is often
a lie not yet given
its time to breathe

Ghost in the machine

no solitary tombstone sits
beneath a
hunchback cypress

no one knows the name
of the soul and a voyage
to the other side

the
ghost in the machine
awoke
cold chrome and steel
a heart, erupting
emerging
where only void lay before

Autumn sunrise

verdant landscape
beams in
naïve optimism
each year choosing
to forget the sun,
swollen with untempered power;
supple stems stiffen
involuntary camouflage
against once-moist soil
now nature’s adobe
stacked
to the horizon, and
pining for an autumn sunrise
